Summer Camps

2006 Summer Camp

Baserunners Batting Company in partnership with Gwinnett County Parks will hold weekly baseball and softball camps beginning June the first full week of June. The camps will run Monday through Friday, 9am-3pm with early drop off and late pickup available.  Camp is open to boys and girls ages 7-14, novice to experienced. Players will be evaluated and placed in appropriate skill groups.

Baseball Instructor – Derrick Jones

My name is Derrick Jones.  I am a resident of Gainesville, Georgia.  I have over 11 years experience playing competitive baseball.  I played travel ball from age ten to eighteen.  During that time, I competed in two USSSA World Series, as well as the USA Baseball Junior Olympics.  I attended East Hall High School where I was a four-year starter as catcher.  During high school, I competed in two final four appearances and received several Area Honorable Mention and U.S. Army Distinguished Athlete Award.  I am presently attending Truett McConnell College where I play catcher and outfield.  I will be helping with the summer camp program at Baserunners and will be available through the summer for private or group instruction.

   

Baseball Instructor – Cacey Rogers

Cacey Rogers has played organized baseball for the past 15 years.  He played league baseball for nine years where he was selected to the league All-Stars eight times.  He played at Habersham Central High School for four years where he was a varsity starter for three years.  He was voted Most Valuable Player as a junior and senior.  He currently plays for Truett-McConnell College as a starting pitcher.  He also plays 1st base and outfield.  Cacey will be a coach with Baserunners Batting Company’s summer camp program.  He will also be available for private and group instruction at Baserunners this summer.
STATS
Senior year Habersham Central High School – 75 innings pitched – 87 strike outs – 28 walks with a 1.14 ERA. In 2001-2002 he was selected to the Seattle Mariners team where he spent 14 days in Australia playing against their Australian teams in the Good Will Series. After graduation he played on a Dixie Youth team and participated in that World Series. He then was selected to play on the Northeast Georgia All-Star team which played at Foley Field in Athens.
Truett-McConnell College – currently three-fourths of the way into the season – 53 innings pitched – 59 strike outs – 16 walks with a 2.55 ERA
   

Softball Instructor – Kate Thompson

 

Sara Kate Thompson is currently pitching for the Fillies of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, GA. She is a graduate of North Gwinnett High School where she holds pitching records for most strikeouts in a single game (13), most strikeouts in a single season (170), career strikeouts (418). She also holds records for lowest single season ERA (.94), career ERA (1.53) and career wins (36).

Kate has been a team member of the Alpharetta Flames, Sandy Plains Breakers, East Cobb Breakers and the Georgia Challengers (Columbus, GA) where she competed in the 18 + under “A” ASA National Tournament.
